The position of the february accident is accurate, at the west entrance of Wadi Wassa. I assume there is a similar minefield at the West entrance of Wadi Firaq, in the southern Gilf. I can confirm that the 'Aqaba pass in the middle Gilf has no mines (we have ascended in Nov. '98), contrary to reports. The fields at Uweinat are well marked anti-tank mines, surrounded by posts and barbed wire, as well as a sign. All other reports are unconfirmed, however minefields set by the egyptian military are likely to be in narrow passages anywhere within 50 km of the lybian border. It's wise to follow existing tyre tracks in the region, and explore all passes before driving through. If there is any obviously man placed object accross the track (eg. a pile of rocks, a large rock or slab, oil drum, etc.) that's likely to be a warning for mines !
