Una giornata speciale sul lago di Inle! siamo arrivati stamattina , dopo una notte molto avventurosa su un bus locale! Stamattina alle 7 siamo arrivati al nostro ostello! Gentilissimi ci hanno permesso di check in subito e offerto una abbondantissima colazione!
Volevo riposare un po ‘ ma Alvise fremeva e così giro al mercato…
Qui è molto diverso da Yangon, qui siamo veramente in un area, poco tempo fa completamente dedicata al l’agricoltura e alla pesca, che si è trasformata molto velocemente in una stazione turistica!
Non so se è triste o se è bene! I turisti portano un po’ dì benessere sicuramente ma quali sono le conseguenze sulla cultura locale!
Qui l’era della televisione l’hanno saltata a piè pari, sono passati ai telefonini …quasi tutti ne possiedono uno almeno nei paesi vicino alle strade!
Questo lago è la Venezia locale, meno lussuosa, tutti i villaggi intorno sono costruiti su palafitte! Il lago si sta ritirando a causa dell’acqua usata per l’irrigazione e l’inquinamento dovuto alla recente introduzione di barche a motore presto si farà sentire!
A special day on Inle lake!
We arrived in the morning after a very adventurous night on a local bus! This morning at 7 we arrived at our hostel! Very kind people allowed us to check in right away and offered a huge breakfast!
I wanted to rest a little but Alvise is excited so let’s go to the market …
Here it is very different from Yangon, here we are in an are that a short not long ago completely dedicated to agriculture and fishing, which has turned very quickly into a tourist resort!
I do not know if it’s sad or it’s good! Tourists bring a little wealth certainly but what are the consequences on the local culture?

Here they didn’t have the era of television , they jumped to mobile phones … almost everyone has one at least in the villages near the streets!
This lake is the local Venice with less luxury. All the villages around are built on stilts! The lake is retreating due to water used for irrigation and pollution due to the recent introduction of motor boats!
La pesca è uno delle principali attività della popolazione locale e a giudicare dalla quantità di pesce sia fresco che essiccato che troviamo nei mercati ce ne ancora tanto, perfortuna!

I mercati piccoli o grandi ci piacciono sempre anche se, quando ti avvicini ad una bancarella dopo e difficile andarsene via senza comprare niente, ti dicono sempre ‘che il primo cliente è ‘lucky money’ portafortuna!
Più che la zona souvenir , è bello passeggiare tra le bancarelle della frutta e verdura e quelle del ferramenta (Alvise) e casalinghi, dolci e la zona caffè e ristoranti molto locali!
Dopo il mercato noleggiamo delle mountain bike e sotto un sole che spacca, usciamo dal villaggio per visitare le zone circostanti. Possiamo così osservare le zone dedicate all’agricoltura. I buoi sembrano ancora essere il principale mezzo per lavorare la terra ed effettuare il trasporto dai campi!
Le case più belle in generale sono a due piani, di sotto animali e magazzino, sopra vivono le persone! Le case di paglia più povere hanno lo spazio al piano inferiore aperto E sono appoggiate su palafitte molte volte di dubbia stabilità ! I letti sono un lusso e i mobili pure! Ci sono sedie di plastica ovunque e i ristoranti per strada usano quelle di misura piccola come quelle che noi usiamo peri bambini !
Fishing is one of the main activities and judging by the quantity of both fresh and dried fish that we find in the markets there is still a lot, very good!
We always like to visit small or big markets even if, when you approach a stall after it is difficult to leave without buying anything, they always tell you that the first customer is lucky money, and of course you are always the first customer!
More than the souvenir area, it’s nice to walk through the fruit and vegetable stalls and the hardware corner (Alvise) and taste the home-made pastries, and desserts with coconut in the cafes area of the market.

After the market we rent mountain bikes and under a striking sun, we leave the village to visit the surrounding areas. We go through areas dedicated to agriculture. The ox still seem to be the main means of working the land and transporting the product from the fields!
The most beautiful houses are on two floors, below animals and warehouse, above the people live! The poorest straw houses have open space downstairs and are propped on stilts many times of dubious stability! The beds are a luxury and the furniture as well! There are plastic chairs everywhere and street restaurants use small ones like the ones we use for children!
Il nostro giro al lago lo abbiamo prenotato con un ometto anziano e sdentato ma con una faccia dolce che ci ha ispirato subito fiducia! Abbiamo deciso di prenotare la barca dall’alba al tramonto ed andare fino a Samkar una delle località più lontane! Non abbiamo sbagliato , abbiamo visto i pescatori al sorgere del sole. Qui su questo lago i pescatori remano con una tecnica usata solo qui, muovono il remo con i piedi tenendone la fine sotto l’ascella. Riconosci i pescatori dai grossi calli sulle caviglie ! Qui tutto viene trasportato in barca persone e merci ! Abbiamo visto giardini galleggianti , fatti di terra che galleggia sui bambù, ingegnoso!

Abbiamo visitato i mercati galleggianti che galleggianti non sono più a causa della scarsità di acqua! Abbiamo visto al lavoro artigiani dell’argento, tessitrici della fibra dei fiori di loto, manifattura di distillato di riso, i vasai, e la preparazione dei sigari locali fatti con foglie di una pianta a noi sconosciuta in cui arrotolano tabacco, anice , zucchero di canna, tamarindo e banana.
Ci siamo comprati anche i pantaloni da pescatore tipici della zona!
Tutti i manufatti sono fatti a mano con strumenti consumati, aggiustati ma che funzionano da sempre!
Il nostro giovane barcaiolo autista ha insegnato ad Alvise a preparare il betel e a masticarlo!! Ci ha portato a visitare la bellissima pagoda di Thrkong , un gruppo di numerosissime antiche pagode, alcune restaurate altre in rovina in attesa di restauro , tutte di mattoni ricoperti di intonaco rosso , che contro il cielo blu con le loro cime decorate da campanelle tintinnanti sono uno spettacolo! Anche le numerosissime statue dei Buddha di diversi materiali sono affascinanti!
La gita continua passando tra canali ricoperti di vegetazione che spesso rallentano il motore, lontano si vedono i campi coltivati, le case , i pescatori , la gente che di lava e lava, il lago è la loro fonte di vita.
Alla fine della nostra giornata vediamo un tramonto bellissimo, dove i pescatori posano per i turisti con i vecchi strumenti di pesca delle reti rotonde fatte di bambù, l’effetto è incredibile e loro prendono qualche soldo forse più che a pescare.
E l’indomani partiamo con un motorino alla scoperta delle campagne intorno al lago! Vediamo ciminiere fumare, ci fermiamo e capiamo che stanno facendo zucchero, prendono le canne da zucchero le passano su dei rulli estraendo il succo, poi fanno bollire usando come combustibile la fibra della canna stessa, si passa da contenitore in contenitore, infine la sostanza più densa viene stesa su pannelli di bambù intrecciato, una volta essiccato ed evaporato la lastra viene incisa e spezzata in tanti rettangoli delle dimensioni di un cellulare , poi impaccato in scatole di cartone pronti per il mercato.
Seconda fermata Inde dove visitiamo un altro stupendo gruppo di stupa e bellissimi Buddha! Poi su e giù per le montagne di strade sterrate e sabbiose dice passiamo villaggi agricoli fermi nel tempo, e vediamo gli intrecciatori di ceste di bambù!
In Dein
Arriviamo anche x visitare un bellissima grotta tempio , lunghissima .., decorata da centinaia di Buddha, molto suggestiva! E poi a casa in tutta fretta … al buio scende la notte e guidare su queste strade non è facile , neanche con Alvise al volante! Ma alle 7 siamo a casa sani e salvi! Se pensate di noleggiare una motocicletta portate patente internazionale dove dice che potete condurre tale tipo di veicolo.Ad oggi per legge gli stranieri non possono noleggiare automobili e teoreticamente nemmeno moto, in alcune zone però chiudono un occhio o a volte come a bagan potete usare scooter elettrici.

we booked our tour of the lake with an old man, toothless but with a very sweet face . We trusted him on the spot!We decided to book the boat from sunrise to sunset and go to Samkar one of the villages further away! We did not go wrong, we saw the fishermen at sunrise. Here on this lake the fishermen row with a technique used only here, they move the oar with their feet holding the top end under the armpit. You Recognize the fishermen by the callus on their ankles! Here everything is transported by boat, people and goods! We have seen floating gardens, made of soil floating on bamboo, ingenious!
We visited the floating markets that are no longer floating due to the scarcity of water! We have seen silver craftsmen at work, weavers of the fiber of lotus flowers, manufacturers of alcohol from rice distillate, potters, and the preparation of local cigars made with leaves of a plant unknown to us in which they roll tobacco, anise, sugar of cane, tamarind and banana.
We also bought the fisherman trousers typical of the area!
All the artifacts are handmade with tools worn, adjusted but that always working!
Our young boatman driver taught Alvise to prepare the betel, and chew it !! He took us to visit the beautiful pagoda of Thrkong, a group of many ancient pagodas, some restored some waiting to be restored, all of brick covered with red plaster, which against the blue sky with their tops decorated with tinkling bells are a real ‘vision’! Even the numerous Buddha statues of different material are also fascinating!

The tour continues passing through channels covered with vegetation that often slow down the engine, far away you can see the cultivated fields, the houses, the fishermen, the people who does the washing and bathe themselves, the lake is their source of life.

At the end of our day we see a beautiful sunset, where fishermen pose for tourists with the old fishing tools of round nets made of bamboo, the effect is incredible and they make some money from tips perhaps more than with thefish.

The next day we start with a scooter to discover the countryside around the lake! We see smoking chimneys, we stop to understand what happens and we understand that they are making sugar, They take the sugar cans pass them on the rollers extracting the juice, then they boil using fuel as the fiber of the barrel itself, it goes from container to container, finally, the densest substance is spread on woven bamboo panels, once dried and evaporated the slab is engraved and broken into many rectangles the size of a cell phone, then packaged in cardboard boxes ready for the market.

Then up and down the mountains of dirt and sandy roads , we pass agricultural villages frozen in time, and we see the weavers of bamboo baskets!

We also arrive to visit a beautiful temple cave, very long .., decorated by hundreds of Buddhas, very suggestive! And then at home in a hurry … in the dark night falls and driving on these roads is not easy, even with Alvise behind the wheel! But at 7 we are home safe and sound! If you plan to drive remember to bring an international driving licence that state you can drive motorcycles, you also have to have with you your original driving licence.
